Please help with the connections of fictional electronic television here?

Just a screen Samsung LCD (LNS4692D) with a feature high-definition (ATSC) and 2 HDMI inputs. We also have a Motorola DVR / HD box from Adelphia and an old Sony DVD player, nothing complicated (no system Surround). The problem I have with the Samsung TV I can not subtitled. According to Samsung's website: "Any video source that is not connected to your TV or RF antenna input bypasses the television closed captioning decoder, so if you have a set-top-box. cable box, satellite or other source video connected to TV with composite video, S-Video, composite video, DVI or HDMI will not be able to access and use the subtitle as watching TV with this source. "I'm not good with all the technical stuff, but it is a bit silly to connect the HD cable box with standard video source, they do not high definition? My question is I can do to get better picture quality and subtitles too? Thank you.

Well, I think foolish to overlook the high-definition connections, it is. But you should not do. The instructions tell you that TV can not decode some subtitles other than live TV broadcasts. However, most of their other sources do not provide subtitles. You need to activate these legends through the functions configuration of individual units. In other words, your DVD player has a menu selection to allow the titles and captions to send TV through the port component / DVI / HDMI. The DVD player is doing, not on TV. Also, your cable box should have a choice of settings similar (I know my receiver antenna, for example). Just use the configuration menus of their sources to activate subtitles.
